Crowned Community Giveback

Start with the child.

Crowned by Tyquanda is preparing children for the new school year with complimentary hairstyles, school supplies, backpacks, and encouragement. Families can request support, and community members can help make it possible. This program is separate from regular paid braiding appointments and booking deposits.

Application information is used to review requests and contact families about the Community Giveback. Monthly specials will always be a separate optional sign-up. Crowned by Tyquanda is not currently a 501(c)(3), and sponsorship payments are not charitable tax-deductible donations. Sponsorship does not guarantee assistance for a particular child; funds and supplies may be combined to support the overall Giveback.

Community Giveback Rules

These rules help Crowned by Tyquanda serve families fairly, protect every child’s appointment time, and keep the Giveback organized as it grows.

Who may apply

A parent or legal guardian must apply for anyone under 18. Adult students may apply for themselves. Applications may request support for youth ages 6–18 or a first-year college student.

Complete information

Submit one accurate application for each child. Missing, duplicated, or intentionally false information may prevent the application from being considered.

Selection is not guaranteed

An application is a request for consideration. Children are selected according to available sponsorships, supplies, appointment space, and the information provided.

Respond by the deadline

Selected families must confirm by the date given in the notification. Unconfirmed appointments may be offered to another child.

15-minute arrival rule

Arrivals more than 15 minutes late must be rescheduled. A new appointment is based on availability and may not be available during the same Giveback cycle.

Cancellations and no-shows

Contact Crowned by Tyquanda as soon as possible if the child cannot attend. Repeated no-shows or last-minute cancellations may affect future eligibility.

Child safety comes first

Share known allergies, sensitivities, scalp concerns, or other information needed for a safe service. The style or service may be adjusted when necessary.

Respectful experience

Families, volunteers, sponsors, and team members are expected to communicate respectfully and follow the appointment instructions provided.

Privacy and photos

Application information is used to review the request and contact the family. A child’s photo or story will not be used publicly without parent, guardian, or eligible adult-student permission.

By submitting a child application, the adult applicant confirms that they are the child’s parent or legal guardian, that the information is accurate, and that they agree to follow these Giveback rules if selected.

Crowned by Tyquanda collects only the information reasonably needed to review a request, organize a sponsorship, communicate with an adult applicant, or provide a requested service.

What is collected

Submitted details may include an adult’s name, contact information, a child’s basic eligibility information, service needs, and safety information voluntarily provided through Google Forms.

How it is used

Information is used to review applications, communicate next steps, schedule services, match overall Giveback resources, and maintain accurate program records. It is not sold.

Where it is stored

Form responses are stored using Google Forms and Google Sheets and are limited to people helping administer the Crowned Community Giveback.

Photos and stories

A child’s photo, name, or personal story will not be published without separate permission from a parent, legal guardian, or eligible adult student.

Marketing stays separate

Giveback information is not automatic permission to send promotional emails. The Crowned VIP List requires a separate, optional sign-up.

Questions or deletion

An adult applicant may request access, correction, or deletion of submitted information by emailing crownedbytyquanda@gmail.com. Records are kept only as long as reasonably needed for the program, safety, and basic accounting.

These simple policies protect your time and mine, so every crown receives the care it deserves.

$25 non-refundable deposit

Required to secure your appointment and applies toward the service total. It is not an additional $25 added to the service price.

Cancellation + rescheduling

One reschedule may transfer the deposit when at least 24 hours' notice is provided and a new available time is selected. Less than 24 hours' notice, cancellations, and no-shows forfeit the deposit. A new deposit is required after a no-show. Repeated cancellations may result in booking restrictions.

Written confirmation

Before sending a deposit, you will receive written confirmation of your service, price, appointment details, and the cancellation or rescheduling terms that apply.

Hair not included

Bring the confirmed braiding hair. If Tyquanda provides it, the actual hair cost plus a $15 sourcing fee is added to the deposit and paid before purchase. Decorative beads and specialty accessories are client-supplied unless arranged.

What is included

Applicable braid appointments include shampoo, conditioner, blow-dry, basic styling products, and basic ponytail holders when needed.

Client preparation

Remove previous extensions unless take-down was arranged. Avoid heavy grease, glue, excessive gel, or buildup. Bring confirmed hair and specialty accessories. Share allergies, scalp sensitivity, sores, irritation, or recent chemical services before the appointment.

Same-day requests

Accepted when available with a $50 same-day convenience fee.

Text messages are preferred at (313) 364-6891. Communication hours are 9 AM–5 PM.

15-minute grace period

Clients arriving more than 15 minutes late may need to be rescheduled so the next client's appointment is protected.

But my heart reaches beyond the chair. I am a creator, a mother, a healer, and a builder who believes our gifts can open doors for our families and pour something beautiful back into our communities. The Crowned Community Giveback is one piece of that bigger vision.
